My name is Amanda Atkinson and I'm an Occupational Therapist who has been practicing in the field of pediatrics since 2005. I am New York State licensed and NYCOT registered. I became a Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist in 2021, as my speciality area is students diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum.
In terms of my education, I received my Bachelor's of Science in Health Science from Stony Brook University in Long Island, NY. I also did my graduate studies at Stony Brook University and received my Master's of Science in Occupational Therapy in June 2005. I did most of my internships in New York City, including a pediatric fieldwork at Blythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla, NY. I moved to Rochester NY in August 2005 and have been living and working in the area ever since.

I've spent most of my career working for Rochester City School District, although I have also worked for Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES and provided independent Occupational Therapy contract services through Building Block Comprehensive Services and Liberty POST. I've worked with the full age range of students - including early intervention, preschool, primary and secondary school. I've worked within the home, daycare, self-contained, integrated and general education classroom settings. My niche is the self-contained ASD classrooms - I love an embedded model where I can work hand in hand with other related service providers and educators.

When I had my own children, I realized how much I relied on the internet to research topics that involved child development. I was grateful to come across many sites that offered wonderful advice. That was when I decided that I would develop a site to provide information in my area of specialty for parents to use, with discretion, of course.

Most of my treatment ideas are adapted from the wonderful conferences that I have gone to. You can find listings of these conference on the "Useful Links" page of this website.
